When and how did your business get started?
The online business formed in early 2012, with actual classes starting in June at the Atlas Xtreme Team Judo & Jujitsu Club. Due to my martial arts background, and being an instructor at the club, I began receiving requests from other students to form a class focused on striking.
After doing my homework on forming a LLC, building a business plan, and getting insured, all that was left was creating the class. I contacted the head coach at AXT to pitch the idea, received his consent to hold the class at the club, and the rest is history.
What is your business best known for?
Gen-X Grappling & MMA is best known for teaching reality based martial arts using a mixed martial arts format and JKD Concepts for fitness and self-defense. Our motto is Proficiency In All Ranges. Classes cover the different ranges of combative engagement including Kickboxing, Clinch Fighting, Ground Fighting, and Weapons. Training is focused on technical instruction, repetitive drilling and supervised sparring.
Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?
I chose Yorkville because I'm a local resident. Plus, the growth in Kendall County has been unbelievable.
What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?
Anyone can watch a class (by request) and the first one is always free. Unfortunately, no one under the age of 16 can attend classes. It is for mature and adult individuals only. Working on providing private lessons (tbd).
Does your business offer a special deals card or program?
There are discounted pricing packages available. Also, students of Atlas Xtreme Team Judo & Jujitsu Club receive a discounted rate.
