Open on Thanksgiving: Add OfficeMax to the List

Another retailer will open its doors on the holiday.

OfficeMax stores will join the growing list of retailers who will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

According to a press release from the company, stores will open at 8 p.m. Nov. 28, allowing shoppers to snag Black Friday deals a day early. Special deal events will happen at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Nov. 28 and at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, according to the company.

"Black Friday shopping has become a celebrated and cherished tradition nationwide, and we know that many customers want to get a head start on the savings as part of their holiday festivities," Michael Lewis, executive vice president and president of retail at OfficeMax said in a press release. "We're opening our doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving to help make OfficeMax among the first stops in the holiday shopping tradition."

It seems more retailers can no longer wait for Black Friday to boost revenue. The trend started two years ago, when Toys 'R Us opened at 9 p.m., according to U.S.A. Today. Last year, Target, Sears, Kmart and Walmart opened at either 8 or 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, according to the article.

Recently, Kohl's also announced its stores will be open on Thanksgiving for the first time.

Yorkville's OfficeMax is located at 376 East Veterans Parkway.
