Construction Begins on Kendall Crossing Movie Theater

Theater is on target to open at the end of 2013.

If you've driven down Route 47 near Route 34 you may have seen some construction going on.

The large walls going up inside the Countryside Center will be home to the new Kendall Crossing Movie Theater.

City administrator Bart Olson said construction is moving along "smoothly" and the theater is expected to open at the end of the year. Earlier estimates pin the opening for November.

Ground was broken for the theater back in January and construction started in mid-april.

The 38,500-square-foot theater will have 10 screens and is expected to include digital projection and sound and be capable of showing 3-D films on each screen. The theater will also include one screen that has the capability of screening IMAX movies.

The theater will be operated by Neighborhood Cinema Group, an Owosso, MI,-based company that operates 14 first-run theaters in small communities. The theater would sit on the lot closest to Route 47; preliminary plans show four commercial lots in Countryside Center.

The theater could employ approximately 50 people.
