Local Attorney Planning LumberJam Music Festival

A local attorney and three partners are planning their first music festival Aug. 6 and 7 around the site of the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, WI.

The LumberJam Americana Music Festival, the brainchild of Yorkville lawyer Boyd Ingemunson and three others, will feature up and coming Americana and Alt-Country bands. In addition to practicing law, Ingemunson is also a partner of Rogue Barrister Records, the group presenting LumberJam festival.

“The musicians we got are amazing,” says Ingemunson. 

The LumberJam festival will bring together acts from across the United States, including New Orleans, Cleveland and New York.  Many local Midwestern artists will also be part of the event.

In December, Rogue Barrister picked a date for the festival and began researching bands. 

Yorkville’s own The Giving Tree Band will play in the festival.  The current lineup also consists of American Revival, Roger Hoover, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, Marco Benevento, Colin Lake, Tom Feldman, Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons, Grayson Capps, 4onthefloor, Pert’ Near Sandstone, and the Boys and Barrels.

Ingemunson and three partners formed Rogue Barrister Records a couple of years ago.  Because of his law background, forming the LLC was simple and required relatively no money. 

They chose Hayward because of its history as the host of the Lumberjack World Championship.  LumberJam will commence the weekend after this year’s world championship.

While the record label is for-profit, all of the proceeds of the festival will be donated to the Forest Stewardship Council.  The FSC was formed in Minnesota in 1993 to promote responsible forest management.  Currently they accredit products FSC certified to show they came from an FSC accredited forest. 

“It’s like the organic moving in forestry,” says Ingemunson.

Only 500 tickets are being sold for the event. Ingemunson hopes for a very intimate experience.  With the band lineup and intimate setting Ingemunson expects a “musically astute crowd.”  In addition to playing at the festival, some bands will also be playing late night shows.

The festival will “take over the town for a weekend,” says Ingemunson.

Two day passes are available for $50 and single day passes are available for $30. Tickets are currently on sale.
