Sky lanterns, also known as Kongming Lantern or Chinese lanterns are airborne paper lanterns that are best known as a tradition found in some Asian cultures.

They are constructed from oiled rice paper on a bamboo frame, and contain a small fuel cell composed of a waxy flammable material. When lit, the flame heats the air inside the lantern, thus lowering its density causing the lantern to rise into the air. The sky lantern is only airborne for 5-10 minutes.

** Lanterns can be purchased online and picked up the day of the event. www.starsofhopefestival.com ***

We will have a limited supply of lanterns available the day of the event. Lanterns are $20. You are welcome to attend the event and not launch a lantern. A donation to SPS is requested for admission.

Our lanterns are 100% biodegradeable. They are white in color. They are made of rice paper and bamboo. They are more eco-friendly than a helium balloon.

Pre-purchased, packaged lanterns will be distributed the day of the event. They are fully assembled. www.starsofhopefestival.com

The person lighting the lantern is required to be 18 years of age or older. Bring a lighter and a flashlight.

Non-launching participants are welcome to come and watch. A donation is requested for entrance. You will be able to watch from the stadium seats.

Please bring a lighter to light your lantern. We will also have helpers on the field to assist you in lighting.

This will be an amazing night!

Directions and Instructions:

Your pre-packaged, fully assembled lantern will be available for pick up the day of the event.

Lanterns come factory sealed. Simply unfold the lantern. Light the fuel cell, and wait as the heat expands the lantern. The lantern will lift from your fingertips when it is ready for launch.

All lanterns must be lit by someone 18 years or older.  Bring a lighter and a flashlight.

When handled carefully, sky lanterns are safe, and easy to launch. We will have assistants on the field to help you.

Parking is available at the field, the library, and both schools neighboring the field.

Wear your pajamas if you like. Bring a blanket if you'd like. Bring your inner child and an open heart. Make a wish. Say a prayer. Be open to the wonder.

All event proceeds go to Suicide Prevention Services of America. www.spsamerica.org
