Whiz Kid: Got Cookies?

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Sold 721 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies!

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: With a goal of selling a thousand boxes, Delanie (and her mom) dedicated between 2 to 3 hours a night over the course of a week to get the job done.  

Wearing her sash full of patches, Delanie set out to pound the pavement in three different subdivisions around Yorkville.  As each door opened the perky scout politely introduced herself and asked: “Would you like to buy some Girl Scout Cookies?”  Most people did buy, and when they did Delanie felt “really happy.”

According to her mom, Kelly, the duo canvassed the neighborhoods until Delanie decided she was tired.  In addition to going door-to-door, Delanie spent time making phone calls to out of town family and friends.

Delanie says in order to be a top seller it is important to “be nice and to say thank you.”   Delanie likes to be the top seller in her troop and also likes to win prizes.  She admits to being a little competitive and says, with a sweet smile: “I was trying to win an iPod Touch.”

This is her third year in Girl Scouts, and she was also a top seller last year with 600 boxes sold. 

 Although her total sales came in about 300 short of her goal, and she felt “a little disappointed” about that, she is still pleased with her accomplishments.  As a reward for her efforts Delanie has won a bike.  Funds earned by the whole troop will help pay for a Stamping Up party and possibly a movie date.  

According to Delanie, the most popular cookie sold is the Thin Mint while she likes the Tagalongs best.  

Delanie’s Troop No. 4576 is also donating Girl Scout cookies to active military overseas.
