There wasn’t an emergency that caused police and firefighters to close down the intersection of Route 47 and Cannonball Trail briefly Saturday afternoon.

Rather, were escorting a soldier who recently returned from Afghanistan to a party at his aunt’s and uncle’s house. PFC Dan Lyons said Bonnie and Steve Schweikert are like a second set of parents to him, but he never expected the line of motorcyclists and fire engines that greeted him – largely at his sister’s request.

Lyons, who grew up in Johnsburg in McHenry County, recently proposed to his girlfriend and plans to spend a few weeks in the area before returning to finish the last two years of his military contract.
