St. Baldrick's Fundraiser Surpassed its Fundraising Goal

Check out video and photos of people shaving their heads to help out a great cause.

Update, April 8

Chris Cherwin, organizer of the event, posted a statement:

A team of dedicated volunteers hosted a St. Baldrick’s head shaving event at Rosati’s Pizza in Yorkville.  With the generous support of many local businesses, hard work of the volunteers, and the shameless enthusiasm of the shavees, we were able to raise $14,500 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.  The money that we raised will help fund the most promising research for cures to childhood cancer.  Thank you to everybody that supported this event.

On Saturday, Rosati's of Yorkville hosted a St. Baldrick's head shaving event to raise money for childhood cancer research. Shavees raised money through donations from their friends and family.

Online donations totaled $6,696, far surpassing this year's goal of $5,000. This total does not include the money raised at the event through raffle ticket sales and last minute donations.

This year's event was held in honor of Alison C., 17, of Yorkville and Isaac Parris, 7, of Montgomery. Alison is currently in treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma and Isaac is in remission from a medulloblastoma. Isaac was a special guest at the event on Saturday and was introduced to all of the attendees before the head shaving began.

Plano Police Chief Steve Eaves, who is also running for Kendall County Sheriff in the 2014 election, was a shavee at the event. He intially had his head only partly shaved, and was then made to collect $100 more in donations before the rest of his hair was shaved off.

Other shavees included adults and children of all ages. There were even several brave women and girls who had their heads shaved.

All money raised from head shaving events around the country goes directly to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The foundation then awards grants that directly fund childhood cancer research.
