Updated: Five Things You Need to Know To Survive Yorkville's Deep Freeze

Local stores and government offices are reopening after the snowfall, but the National Weather Service is predicting a high of 9. It's cold out there!

Yorkville dug itself out on Groundhog Day just in time for a wind chill advisory to start. The National Weather Service is predicting wind chills down to below 22 degrees, with a high of 9 for today.

Friday doesn't sound much better: a high of 16 with wind chills down to 18 below. Then, there's a 20 percent chance of snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Here are some things you need to know to get through second snow day:

1) Government offices reopen. The wind chill advisory is set to expire at noon. Noon is also will and other city facilities are expected to open to the public. The county courthouse and sheriff's offices re-opened this morning at their normal times.

All county court matters scheduled for Wednesday have been rescheduled for Friday at the same time and same courtroom. Yorkville's adjudication hearings scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 2 will be moved to Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.

2) Drivers should be careful as city plowing continues. Yorkville's will be working today and most of Friday to finish clearing roadways, according to a city news release.

City officials are asking drivers to use extra caution in areas where piles of plowed snow have reduced visibility. City crews "are working today to clear cul-de-sacs, expand one-lane roads into two-lane roads, and plow closer to curbs to widen two-lane roads," the news release states.

3) Garbage service adjusted. If Wednesday was your garbage day, you should have set your garbage out this morning. Veolia Environmental canceled refuse service for Wednesday, so pick-up will be delayed one day, city officials said.

4) Yorkville non-profits push back schedules. will not hold its normal food distribution today, but will resume distributing food next Thursday at the regular times. In case of emergency, call pantry director Maria Spaeth at 630-853-3029.

In other non-profit news, the new Chapel on the Green NFP has moved to 6:30 p.m. today in the chapel basement at 107 W. Center St.

5) Some Yorkville businesses are re-opening today. is opening at 11:30 a.m. for lunch, according to a Facebook announcement from the restaurant. wasn't open yesterday, but will be open today. Hoppers Inflatable Family Fun Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 181 Commercial Drive, Unit G.
