A Yorkville man wants to make sure American troops from the Yorkville area receive a taste of home this Christmas.
Yorkville real estate investor Jeff Nydegger, a former combat veteran who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, is seeking the names of local servicemen and women deployed overseas so he can send them a Christmas care package.
Nydegger remembered what it meant to receive care packages during his own time in the U.S. Army and wants to make sure current troops experience the same thing. While there are numerous organizations that ship care packages to the troops, Nydegger said he wants to make sure troops from Kendall County know the people from home are thinking of them.
“Supporting our men and women serving our nation overseas is a privilege. They have taken the risk of doing so, we should support the who, even if we don’t support the what,” Nydegger said in an email. “Supporting our local troops impact the community and builds cohesiveness in our own area.”
Working with his real estate colleagues from Kendall Partners, Ltd., and members of his Bible study class, Nydegger will send the care packages to the deployed troops.
“We just need the names,” he said.
If people do not have names, but wish to help the effort, he said they will accept toiletries, candies, games, magazines, DVDs, shirts, socks, hats and other sundries to include in the care packages.
