LifeSource: Artic Chicagoland Weather Makes Blood Donations Even More Vital to Those in Need

LifeSource, Chicagoland’s largest blood services provider, is asking donors to endure the brutal, wintry conditions, and donate blood over the next week. This will allow LifeSource to replenish blood needed for area patients that couldn't be donated due to recent bad weather and the holidays.

“First and foremost, we want our donors to be safe in these winter conditions, and visit us when they feel safe traveling,” says LifeSource executive director Chad Douglas, “but we need more blood donations to rebuild our community blood supply to appropriate levels to ensure high-quality patient care.”

Extreme conditions have blanketed the Chicago area since New Year’s Eve, prompting some donors to miss their scheduled visits to LifeSource’s 18 donor centers.

“Our Chicago area winter weather is expected to continue to negatively impact our blood donations,” Douglas adds. “Patient needs don’t change with the weather. That’s why we’re asking our donors to show their ‘Chicago spirit’ by overcoming the conditions, and make their way to our donor centers.”
