Return of Hardee's Brings Mixed Reaction in Yorkville

Hardee's also has plans to open in Oswego and Plainfield.

Hardee's is back.

After leaving the area in the late-1980s, the charbroiled burger chain is making a comeback: A new location also plans to open in Plainfield and another in Oswego.

Hardee's used to be located at 1502 North Bridge Street, near the current location of the Yorkville Moose Lodge restaurant.

Some readers were happy to learn that Hardee's, home of the "Thickburger" and crispy curls, was coming back to the city. Others were less than thrilled to see Burger King replaced by another fast-food joint. Here's what some had to say on Facebook:

Lisa H. love that hardees is coming back. & i dont know how that particular burger king stayed open as long as it did! worst service ever!
Walt S. They closed stores many years ago...and now they're back? A Sonic would have bin better!
Julie B. Nasty...
Kevyn L. My first Job was at a Hardees. Great food, and much better quality than the average fast food chain like McDonalds etc.  ... Their menu has changed as I don't think they do the Fried Chicken anymore (it was far better than KFC/Popeys etc), but the Frisco is awesome, as well as they have a great Roast beef sandwich. This is a great addition !
Brenda W. Can't wait!
Michael C. Great that was one old, nasty BK
Jacquee L. alas, another chain restaurant
Pamela B. Not all that great
Edna W. I am thrilled Hardee's is coming back to this area, love the biscuits and gravy!

Hardee's announced in October that it planned to expand in the suburban Chicago market, opening new stores Elk Grove Village and Midlothian in 2013. Long-range plans call for 35 new restaurants in the next seven years, according to a Chicago Sun-Times article.

The St. Louis-based company also plans to move to the northeastern part of the United States. Plans call for about 200 new stores in five years in the New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts markets, the story said.

The company also owns the Carl's Jr. fast-food restaurant chain.

What do you think? Are you glad to see the return of Hardee's, or would you prefer a different food alternative?

What we really needed was a Wendy's in order to complete the fast food trifecta: Whopper at Burger King...fries from McDonalds, and a frosty from Wendys...Then I suppose you could hear over to Walgreens for medical assistance.

40 years ago as a teenager we called it Hardlee's, cause it was hardly edible. But then, I think that of all fast food chains now.

Come on Yorkville, how about some decent restaurants? Chili's, Olive Garden, etc.? We have enough pizza joints, fast food and banks. No, let's open more banks, when there are no customers in the current ones!

I wish we were getting an Olive Garden or TGIF, anything but another fast food place. I don't go to the ones we have, and I have to go to other towns for a good sit down restaurant.

Olive Garden, yes!

Agree another sit down restaurant would be nice even if it was a chain

An establishment with healthy choices makes better sense. There are enough places to get a artery clogging sandwich in Kendall.

You will get all of them restaurants when all of those empty lots. in empty subdivisions are filled.....
