"Chicago Magic Expert" Hosting Houdini Program at Yorkville Public Library Thursday

The event goes off at 7 p.m.

The Yorkville Public Library along with the Friends of the Library will be hosting a program entitled: “Houdini: His Life & His Legend” presented by William Pack on Thursday, August 1 at 7:00 pm.  This program is suitable for Adults, teens, and older children (10 and up).

Harry Houdini was a magician, ghost chaser, daredevil, and an American stunt performer noted for his sensational escape acts.  He astounded audiences around the globe with his death-defying acts and illusions.   No jail cell or straitjacket could hold him. He shucked off handcuffs as easily as gloves.  He even made a ten-thousand pound elephant vanish into thin air. 

Join the Yorkville Public Library for an exciting look into the life of Harry Houdini as told by William Pack.  William will thrill audience members during this interactive storytelling program.

Come hear the true stories of Houdini, the American self-liberator, Europe’s eclipsing sensation, and world’s handcuff king who inspired generations of children who dared to dream of the impossible.  Watch Houdini come to life as audience members participate in recreations of some of Harry’s tricks and illusions.  Stay after the program to ask questions or browse Mr. Pack’s mini-museum of Houdini posters, pictures, and other amazing ephemera. 

Born and raised in Chicago, William pack is a magician, storyteller, and author.  At 11 years old, William got a job in a magic shop, there he began his trade and he hasn’t stopped since.

He was trained in classical style magic at the Chavez College of Prestidigitation, preformed close-up magic at the famous Schulien’s restaurant, caught cheats for a casino, and demonstrated magic for 13 years at Chicago’s Navy Pier.  

He is internationally recognized as “The Chicago Magic Expert” and wrote five books on magic history.  Mr. Pack has won numerous awards for his magic and comedy performances.  In 2001, he taught actor Will Smith sleight of hand for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the film, Ali.
