11-Year-Old Girl Fights For a Cure

Many times throughout life we can get a sense of pride in our children and grandchildren. I am overwhelmed with that sense of that pride in my 11-year-old granddaughter.

Miah Rasmusson is raising money to help find a cure for juvenile cancer. Cancer is very dear to her. Miah lost one grandfather, Charles Goering,  a couple years ago to cancer while her other grandfather, Dave Schillinger just received stem cells at Northwestern hospital due to cancer.

A couple weeks ago Miah heard of St. Baldricks Foundation. Where volunteers commit to shaving their heads in a sign of solidarity for kids with cancer while raising money to help find a cure. Miah asked her parents if she could do this. At first everyone tried to talk her out of it afraid of sending a bald headed 11-year-old girl to 5th grade.

After a lot of convincing her parents agreed. Miah was apprehensive of setting a $750 goal but within 4 days she raised over $1700 and the donations keep coming in along with words of encouragement for her.

My family is very proud of our brave little girl and would like to get the word out to help her in her fight. Miah will be shaving her head April 14th at Fox and the Hound. If anyone would like to make a monetary donation in her name you can go to www.stbaldricks.org and search for Miah R under participants.

Miah is a special young lady and anybody that knows her is better off for it. She has more love in her than could possibly fit inside her tiny little frame yet there seems to be a never-ending supply of it. The world could use more adults following the kind of example that this darling girl is setting. we're so proud of you.
