Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: Mary Anne Ryan, the Pet Food Distribution Coordinator for the Kendall County Food Pantry, and student council members had a pet food drive Saturday at Oswego's Petco location.

Here's what Ryan had to say about the students' project:

The YMS Student Council Members, whose sponsor is Faculty Member Jeff Young,  collected both pet food purchased by Petco customers and monetary donations.  The members intend to hold a monthly pet food drive at the Oswego Petco through the end of the 2012 school year.

If you want to help, too: Donate pet food at the Kendall County Food Pantry, 1204 Deer St., Yorkville. The pet food program has more than 1,000 clients and serves more than 2,000 dogs and cats a month. Food also is available for small animals, birds and fish.

Thanks to a partnership with Rosati's Pizza, each Whiz Kid receives a free 12-in thin-crust cheese pizza redeemable at the Yorkville or Sandwich locations.

A Whiz Kid is innovative, caring, creative, smart, responsible, savvy, interested, determined, strong, trustworthy, respectful or faithful. (Or any other adjective you can think of to describe a cool kid doing something positive). To nominate a Whiz Kid, email Yorkville Patch editor Jillian Duchnowski at jillian.duchnowski@patch.com.
