Ugly's Hot Dogs Closed Temporarily

The iconic restaurant on Route 34 has been closed as road construction preparations continue.

Yorkville's "purveyor of fine hot dogs and other good stuff" is closed until further notice, according to a sign on its door.

The stand at 197 E. Veteran's Parkway and its business sign with its well-known chubby face are undisturbed, but manager Thomas O'Connor confirmed Monday that he is cooking up some improvements.

Ugly's lollipop sign pole was demolished as part of preparations for reconstructing the intersection of routes 34 and 47, and the road expansion project ultimately will eat up half of the parking lot, the post left on the business' Facebook page on May 5 states.

"We welcome these changes and believe this is a good time for us to make some changes here at Ugly's as well," the post states. "So, we'll be closed until further notice to give us a chance to do some updating and cook up a few new ideas to bring our loyal customers an even better Ugly's experience."

"When the dust settles, our roads will better accommodate drivers and Ugly's will better accommodate our customers," the post continues. "We look forward to serving you again soon!"

Customers are encouraged to check Ugly's Facebook page for further updates.
