Updated: Two Juveniles Suspected of Stealing 2,500 Rubber Ducks

Yorkville Citizens Police Academy Alumni asks residents to return any rubber ducks they find to Yorkville police. The ducks are used for an annual charity event.

Yorkville police are still investigating the theft of 2,500 rubber ducks from a city building but have two juvenile suspects, Chief Dave Delaney said Friday morning.

The numbered, yellow rubber ducks were taken from the former post office building in the 200 block of West Hydraulic Street, likely earlier this week, police said. The Yorkville Citizens Police Academy Alumni use them for a "Duck Pluck" fundraiser at Hometown Days.

The rubber ducks appeared on cars in the Yorkville High School parking lot and along roadways between Oswego and Sandwich, police said. Police and members of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni picked some of them up and plan to count how many have been recovered Monday, Delaney said.

The Citizens Police Academy Alumni is a non-profit group that supports local police by donating equipment, directing traffic during local events and searching for missing children, among other things, Delaney said.

The Duck Pluck is among the group's biggest fundraisers. Delaney was unsure Friday morning what the cost to replace the missing ducks would be.

Anyone who finds a rubber duck is encouraged to return it to police to reduce the financial impact on the citizens group. If anyone has information about the theft, they also are encouraged to call at 630-553-4340.
