Whiz Kid: Does Your Kid Deserve Some Recognition?

Now that the school year is underway, Yorkville Editor Jillian Duchnowski figures it's time to retrain the spotlight on some of the special things Yorkville area kids do.

It's time to bring back Whiz Kids.

We want to recognize accomplishments big and small, whether it be completing a special project, dedicating oneself to an interesting hobby, or making Eagle Scout.

And Rosati's Pizza of Yorkville is joining us. They'll give each kid who is named a Yorkville Patch Whiz Kid a free pizza.

Each week, Yorkville Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Whiz Kid.

Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to jillian.duchnowski@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information:

  • Nominator’s Name
  • Nominator’s E-mail
  • Whiz Kid’s Name
  • Whiz Kid’s Age
  • Whiz Kid’s School
  • Whiz Kid’s Accomplishment
  • Whiz Kid’s Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?)

If your nominee is selected, we’ll contact you and assign a photographer to take a photo. For questions, e-mail Editor Jillian Duchnowski at jillian.duchnowski@patch.com.

I, Jen Slepicka, nominate Jared Mol. 11 Years old. Attends YIS. Jared is amazing. He's the oldest brother to 2 sisters and a brother. He's just a good boy- a great student (accelerated classes) but during a car ride most recently, I learned even more. Jared wants to be a farmer. And he knows his stuff! Did you know that farmers who have more than one crop in a field get fined? Did you know that you have to mow between the fields of corn? Did you know there are many different products that need to be applied to corn- and, if done incorrectly, kill the whole crop? Did you know sweet corn grows much shorter than field corn? Did you know that if you cut off the yellow tops of corn the corn will die? I learned so much! His drive and determination to be a farmer really wow-ed me. He can rock a pink skate board. Ace a class. And.. knows his farming. I am impressed. :-)

I am so proud of my amazing son Jared. He has such a wide variety of knowledge I am awed daily. Being his mom has me biting my nails and just down right worried, that I think goes with the luxury of being a mom to a boy. Jared has had tough experiences most adults dont go through. Yet he has never lost his drive. I love you Jared
