Toftoy Announces Township and Local Endorsements for Coroner's Campaign

The Committee to Reelect Ken Toftoy provided the following news release:

Coroner Ken Toftoy is pleased to announce the endorsement and support of 13 local community leaders. This is a team in formation with more people coming on board soon. Toftoy will release more local leader support, especially at the city and village level, on Monday.

All of this local support shows the satisfaction with the professional level of service provided by the Kendall County Coroner's office under Toftoy's leadership since December of 1992.

Here are the endorsers:

Township Road Commissioners: Jeff Corneils, Bristol, Brad Mathre, Fox, Roger Thorsen, Little Rock, Gary Grosskopf, Oswego, Marty Schwarz, Kendall, and Jeff Mathre, Big Grove (also is Newark Fire Chief).

Township Supervisor: Jim Detzler, Oswego

Township Trustees: Bill Small, Oswego, Sid Simmons, Oswego, Tom Yackley, Oswego, Herb Walton, Little Rock

Oswego Fire Protection District Fire Chiefs: Brad Smith (ret.) and Rick Neitzer

"I really appreciate the support of these locally elected and appointed officials. They are all very close to the people we both represent, and I take my job seriously in being responsive in a professional, compassionate, and fast way," Toftoy said.

Could someone tell me what the issue in this election is. I'm not trying to be difficult, but I thought the office was running smoothly. You don't hear anything bad about it like Animal Control. I don't want rumors or trash talk, just someone to explain what the issues are, and why voters should consider a change. If there isn't any real reason, why is this happening?

DeKalb, and Kendall County have the same population. The DeKalb County Coroner's Office is budgeted 50 hours weekly for employee salaries, to include the Coroner at 20 hours. Mr. Toftoy budgets to work 40 hours for himself. The job that Ms. Purcell (Executive Secretary) is performed at 10 hours weekly, in DeKalb County, though she is paid to work for 40 hours for the Kendall County Coroner's Office. DeKalb County has 2 part time deputy coroner's, we have 5. Yes, Ms. Purcell is a deputy coroner, so lets give her 10 additional hours weekly. DeKalb does budget for another part time deputy coroner at 10 hours a week. In other words, Mr. Toftoy's budget is padded by at least 20 hours a week for himself, and 20 hours a week for Mrs. Purcell, when you compare it to DeKalb County. Times are tough, and it's time to economize. That is the Republican way of doing things, I've been told. If DeKalb County has 50 hours of weekly employment budgeted for the Coroner's Office, with the same population, why do Kendall County taxpayers have to spend 100% more in salaries, for Mr. Toftoy, and Mrs. Purcell?

Interesting analysis, Stephen. Would it also be fair to point out that Kendall County does not currently have a hospital. DeKalb County, on the other hand, has at least two of which I am aware (Valley West Hospital in Sandwich and Kishwaukee Community Hospital).

After the recent primary, Toftoy argued for a raise (which was ultimately approved by the County Board). One of his arguments for justifying this raise was that Kendall County might soon be getting a hospital (which would result in an increased case load). Since DeKalb County already has two hospitals, wouldn't one also argue that the DeKalb Coroner's office is already doing a lot more with a lot less?

Travis, you still didn't counter the fact that we are paying DOUBLE for the FULL TIME employees in the Coroner's Office, Why don't you follow up with me on an analysis of what both the DeKalb , and the Kendall County Coroner's Offices do. I'm willing to work on it with you. We'll see if I'm more accurate with my analysis. This is one of the reasons why Kendall County is the 26th highest taxed County in the Nation. All of our taxing districts have never cared about how we could do the job for less. The Coroner's Office is a classic example.
