Newark Announces Theme and Events for Fourth of July

In following last year’s theme; this year’s theme is “Oh
Beautiful for Spacious Skies”; this is the second year of a 5 year plan following the song of America the Beautiful. 

Events that will be occurring from June 29 – July 4th
are:

Friday, June 29:  Night time Fire Department Water Fights – downtown Newark

Saturday, June 30: Street Dance and Beer Garden
– downtown Newark.  This year’s street dance will be unique as it will be a USO Night with Big Band Music.  Dance Lessons will be provided and all Veterans will be honored during the night. Please come in Uniform if able.

Sunday, July 1: Community Picnic – Townhouse Park

                        Flag Retirement Ceremony - If you have a flag that needs to be retired please contact Derek Simmons, Scoutmaster – Newark Boy Scout Troop 42 to arrange a pickup or drop off.  815-695-5927.

Wednesday, July 4:
                   8:00 am Downtown Park –
                   Flag Raising Ceremony, followed by Duane

                   Christian singing the National Anthem.

                    8:00 am - Parade Line-up begins at the High

                    School

                   Categories for awards this year will be:

                   Best Theme Float,

                   Best Commercial Float,  

                   Best Bike

                   Best Child Float

                   Best Organization

                   Best Vehicle/Antique

                   Best Horse (if you are competing in this event

                    you will need to have a cleanup person follow

                    behind your horse or you will not be allowed

                    to participate)

 

9:00 am – Garden Club Planter Contest:  Planters must be
                at the Fire Station for judging                           10:00 am – Parade Begins

10:00 am – 4:00 pm – the following shops and museums will be open

Misner Blacksmith Shop

Fern Dell Museum

Fern Dell School

After the Parade: there will be kid’s games, food vendors including:  Friends of the Library – Pork Chop or Chicken
Dinner at the Fire Station; Incoming 8th Grade Fundraiser – selling hotdogs; Vic Stott selling his baked goods.

We will also once again have the tractor show – for information regarding this, please contact Dave Elmore at 815-695-5935.

Silent Auction will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Corrections: Virg Duvick will be selling his baked goods, silent auction goes until 1:30 and the Community Picnic starts at 1:00 and the Flag Retirement starts at 7:30 pm
