A 5K fun run and walk memorializing a 2005 Plano High School graduate who died this year in a traffic crash will be included in Plano's inaugural Smallville Superfest.

The Andrew Kuebrich Hero Run will start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, and will benefit a scholarship fund in his name.

Kuebrich, 24, was more than 100 miles into a 400-mile bike trip from Taipei to the southern tip of Taiwan in January when he and his bicycle were struck by a truck. He had been overseas for the previous 18 months teaching English in Hong Kong, and then Taipei.

The run will be on the final day of Smallville Superfest, which celebrates Plano's emerging legacy as the set of Smallville for the Superman reboot movie Man of Steel.
