Sandwich, IL – Organizers of the Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic announced the date for the 2012 charity event. The golf outing will be held on August 18, 2012 at Edgebrook Country Club in Sandwich, IL.

The event helps raise money for the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Quilt Project, which strives to raise awareness for CHD, while honoring the strength, courage, and commitment of all those born with a CHD and their families. The project also uses funds to help various community organizations purchase defibrillators and help fulfill wishes for children with CHD.

The Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic is held annually in honor of Jason Schweinberg who was born with a rare congenital heart defect. Throughout his life he had countless medical procedures and many open-heart surgeries. He grew up in Sandwich and enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing with his dad and working on cars & trucks. On August 9, 2001, Jason passed away during a heart transplant. He was only 17 years old and had courageously battled this disease but never let his condition get in the way of how he wanted to live his life.

Since Jason’s death the Schweinberg family has committed themselves to helping families whose children are born with CHD. In 2004, Steve and Cathy Schweinberg held the first Jason Schweinberg Memorial Classic to honor their son’s memory and help raise money to support the CHD Quilt Project. In the past, the outing has raised funds to provide AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) to schools and other facilities across the United States. Since many Sandwich businesses and residents have supported the fundraiser the Schweinberg family has made Sandwich facilities their first priority. AEDs have been placed in Woodbury Elementary, Prairie View Elementary, Lyn G. Haskin Elementary, Herman E. Dummer School, Sandwich Middle School, Sandwich High School Concession Stand, Indian Valley Vocational Center, Dojo Dynamics, Sandwich Youth Tackle Football, and FVOAS.

For those interested in supporting the event, there are a variety of sponsorship packages available. In order to be included in event signage and the program, sponsorships are due no later than August 1, 2012. The entrance fee to golf is $120 and includes lunch, driving range, 18 holes of golf, a cart, commemorative shirt, awards, beer and dinner. It is $40 for individuals who would only like to participate in the dinner. Golf and dinner reservations are due by August 1, 2012.
