Cross Lutheran School to Highlight Expanded Preschool Program Jan. 29

Cross Lutheran School provided the following news release:

Cross Lutheran School is expanding it’s offerings for preschool for the 2012-13 school year and will be showcasing them in an open house slated for Jan. 29 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. At the open house, prospective parents (no children please) can learn more about the exciting changes to its preschool programs, meet school staff and tour the facilities.

Cross preschool programs are designed to offer children many different experiences to broaden their exposure to the world and nurture their faith development. For many children, preschool may be their first experience with non-family members caring for them as well as their first exposure to a social environment with their peers. Cross strives to make these first impressions of school positive ones, keeping the focus on learning exciting and fun.

New 2 year old program – Cross, for the 2012-13 school year, will offer a 2 year old preschool program designed to encourage development in gross motor, fine motor, spiritual, intellectual and social skills. Parents have the option of enrolling their children in either a one or two day a week program that supports early learning habits. Children will gain confidence as they separate from parents, establish early classroom routines and learn to make choices in social interactions. Students in this program must be 2 years of age on or before September 1, 2012 and toilet training is not required.

Enhanced 3 and 4 year old program – Parents, in the 2012-13 school year, will have expanded options for their children. For the 3 year old program, you may choose from a two or three day a week option. The 4 year old program offers a three or a five day a week program.

If parents choose, both 3 and 4 year old programs also have additional lunch & enrichment and quiet time & more (extended day) options. While the morning preschool offers a balance of all curricular areas and the new lunch & enrichment program
(11:05 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) highlights the following areas:

  • Math Mondays – Children will have the opportunity to explore math concepts
using a variety of tools such as measuring, sorting, patterning, etc.
  • Tumbling Tuesdays – Children will stretch both their muscles as well as minds
through movement, exercise, guided use of large motor equipment and group games.

Cross preschool continues

  • Wednesday Wonders – Students will be encouraged to investigate both physical and social science topics including nature exploration, experiments, places around the world, etc.
  • Thursday Tales – Student on Thursdays will experience literature of various styles such as storytelling, puppetry and poetry.
  • Fine Arts Fridays – On Fridays, students discover the arts through direct experiences in music, dance and art media as well as others.

Parents of 3s or 4s who would like to extend their preschoolers day until 3:00 p.m. may do so with the Quiet Time & More sessions. Here students will have an opportunity to rest as well as participate in activities that coordinate with the concepts learned during their morning preschool day.
